「It was just a matter of time for Atem to realize that Kaiba was gone, he gave it just as long as he could before he actually came around his empty apartment with a sliver of hope that he had found a way to erase himself from the network, go rogue in some way. But no, he was truly gone and he had left him behind, for a change...
It took him a long time to get out of that apartment, not that it's something he will admit, waiting for the CEO knowingly he wouldn't come back, at least not right in that moment, or probably never. He finds his suitcase, filled with hundreds of different cards, maybe it's not a good idea to leave his things there, abandoned. It isn't until the next day, when he's almost done preparing to leave that he opens it out of curiosity just to make sure of something — no, his main deck isn't there, but then he does notice a single different card.
It is only upon seeing it that a queasy feeling fills Atem, a haze falls down around his thoughts, he's felt that before. He tries to ignore it for the sake of the moment but of course the feeling will not leave him alone as he prepares to go on the expedition he had planned, regardless Kaiba was there or not.
It takes him only a few long to do something about it.」
